I'm a Kiwi too, but I don't think that makes me better than Australians - or anyone, for that matter. Sport? Rugby? There must be more to life. And wasn't "God Defend New Zealand" written by a Scotsman? Why haven't we got a song like this one? Because people like Fred Dagg, Split Enz etc had to move to Australia to make a living. And I think you mean COLOUR TV.....?

Being a Kiwi down in New Zeland is better than being an Aussie just think about how much better we do (in sport - rugby n' league) also we had clour tv before you ha ha!!! Kiwi 4 life thats right " God defend NEW ZEALAND"

I think it's the convict thing. We got lucky in the US. We actually got as many Horsethieves, bandits, and pickpockets,as you did. there was just not a specific program. We got a lot that were just one step ahead of the constable, or an angry father with a shotgun.

The reason is our shameful cultural cringe - why it was such a terrible thing to be proud of being Australian I will never understand. But thankfully we don't have to request that God Save The Queen anymore!

This may sound strang but, when I attended primary and high school, we sang "God Save The Queen" at assembly, each and every week. I had never even heard of Advance Australia Fair until years later and to this day I don't know why.
