Gaspar Sanz, éste músico y sacerdote nació en la villa de Calanda (Teruel) el dia 4 de Abril de 1640 y se cree que murió en Madrid el año 1710. Fue el más grande teórico español de la guitarra del siglo XVII. Esta afirmación está avalada por Robert Strizich (gran especilista) quien sostiene que no solamente es el mejor de los tratadistas españoles sino el más completo de todos los de su tiempo.
